Beyond The Tea Cup
Curated by Sayumporn Kasornsuwan

(Thonglor soi 10)
Beyond The Tea Cup is an exhibition by 17 international artists from different countries showing their ceramic and porcelain "teacups". Inspired by the tea culture that originated in China more than 4,000 years ago, the exhibition looks into the culture that has been traveled to every corner of the world by not just being a beverage to quench one's thirst but the root of each country and region. Types of tea leaves, application of heat, temperature, brewing processes, tools, and styles of drinking all come with detailed and delicate backstories.
Many countries highly consider handmade teacups as art or masterly craft. They express individuality, ideas as well as the emotions of the cup creators. On the contrary, the teacup one selects can also speak volumes about the owner as it reflects their tastes and experiences. Therefore, in this exhibition, viewers can decide what to see or like and enjoy the aesthetic of the ceramic that best represents who they are.
"Beyond The Tea Cup" by 17 artists from Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore is exclusively curated by Associate Professor Sayumporn Kasornsuwan.
